Particularly colorful minerals are formed during the weathering of ore deposits, for example lead-copper deposits. Bayldonite is a rather rare mineral that is green in color. Deep blue azurite in contrast occurs frequently in such deposits. Its intense color was very attractive, for example, as a pigment in the cultures of ancient Egypt and the Maya.
