The Beast is a modern interpretation of the complex and equivocal symbolic representation of a snake and a dragon. The artist consciously transgresses the boundaries between high and low culture. He creates a work that is minimalistic, yet affects the senses thanks to its rounded shape and vivid colours. The sculpture is a reinterpretation of the legend of the Wawel dragon and a response to the commercialisation of the historic centre of Krakow. The polysemy of form, which oscillates between the image of a cuddly toy and a monster is also an allusion to Jeff Koons's oeuvre and his sculptural play with the idea of pop art.

Maurycy Gomulicki (b.1969) – pursues graphic art, photography, creates objects, installations, short films and animated cartoons. A graduate of the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He continued his education at Universitat de Barcelona, Nuova Accademia di
