Beethoven's Death Mask

After he could hardly get out of bed for three months, Beethoven died at the age of 56 in his apartment in Vienna. This death mask was probably cast the following morning. Since 1888, Beethoven's bones have been lying in the Vienna Central Cemetery, after they had been moved from a smaller cemetery.
