Beethoven Vase and Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro

Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro next to the Beethoven Vase, still in the white clay stage and yet to be glazed, at the Fábrica de Faianças das Caldas da Rainha. This black and white photograph documents the artist’s work during the production phase of the Beethoven Vase, between 1896 and1898. The piece has been in the Museu de Belas Artes in Rio de Janeiro since 1899.
