The ‘Raffaelkabinett’, also known as the ‘White Room’, is here seen in a work that served as a kind of sample for a proposed design. In a written description of his ideas for the interior design, dated 31 January 1825, Schinkel explained: ‘This perspective drawing was actually carried out with the bedroom in mind. Since it would require too much time to provide an individual drawing for each and every room, here we see one of the three main rooms, with changes made to the colours, furniture, and ornaments. Hence you have to imagine a fireplace and sofa on the opposite side, although the style of these would remain in keeping with the rest of the room.’
