Rules page of race card containing rules, races and names of race officials for the Indian Ocean Meeting aboard the Orient line ship Orsova in 1933. Reflects recreational activities organised by shipping companies in the 1930s. Deckside 'horse races' were a popular entertainment where passengers competed against each other to wind in wooden horses attached to lines of string. Passengers could also gamble on the races.

  • Provenance: Ephemera from a 1933 voyage of the Orient Royal Mail Liner Orsova to London. Several passengers mentioned on the card, such as Lieutenant Colonel Harrison Midwood and R. Stallard were well-known in Brisbane where they had embarked. On this voyage, the Orsova arrived and departed Outer Harbour 27th July 1933, sailing for Fremantle on its way to London.
