Monkeys play a key role in the work of Mu Pan (Taichung City, Taiwan, 1976). For him, monkeys represent human nature in its rawest form, without filters. In Birds are Laughing on Top of the Tree, Mu Pan’s approach is naturalistic, endowing the monkeys with behaviours rooted in the natural world. The Asian-American artist Mu Pan has made mixing cultures his personal brand. His works present multiple narrative layers, personal reflections on human behaviour where humour and violence often come together.
