Black and white albumen photograph of a group of 11 men, five standing and 6 seated on chairs, on the Melbourne Cricket Ground in front of the 'old' 1854 Pavilion. The team of ten Aboriginal men wear the uniform of jackets buttoned at the top over vests, white shirts and pants, and hold boater hats, while the coach in the centre, T.W. Wills, wears a lighter jacket and a baggy cap. The photograph is mounted in a brown, stiff card mount with gold-flecked inner border, and black ink inscriptions hand-printed above and below the image, the title, reading, "THE AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL TEAM / 1866", and below each player is written a corresponding name in the following order: "KING COLE / JELLICO / TARPOT / PETER / T.W.WILLS (CAPTAIN) / RED CAP / HARRY ROSE / MULLAGH / BULLOCKY / CUZENS / DICK-A-DICK".
