Zdeněk Sýkora was a Czechoslovakian modern abstract painter and a sculptor. He is best known for his pioneering use of computers in art. This painting was developed in 1968 and it shows computer-generated patterns. The computer used was LPG-30 and Jaroslav Blažek programmed it.
'It is about the programming of structures. Their characteristics are determined by a type of element, and by the rules they follow. The elements are built up from simple geometric forms – by dividing or joining those forms. These are constructed in such a way that the machine can distinguish them by type and position,' commented Sýkora.
