Black Evening Gown

This form-fitting evening gown displays the masterful tailoring of Madeleine Vionnet (1876-1975). The silvery shimmering, black silk satin appears to have been cast from the body form. Such a fit is only possible as the result of a sophisticated bias cut processed satin, and suggests attribution to Madeleine Vionnet. The sleeveless evening gown without closure is worked continuously. The bodice consists of two triangular bust portions that merge into shoulder straps and meet in the back, leaving the shoulders free. Beneath this, diamond pieces set at the front and rear widen toward the hem and the side panels are shaped by parabolic lengths.
