Black Pride was the publication of the Black Culture Society, a prisoner organization that formed at the Marion Federal Prison in Marion, Illinois. The Society served the prison population by conducting general education classes on a variety of topics and developing an extensive library. Black Pride served as the Society’s means of communicating its goals and ideas to the outside world. The Society met with resistance from prison officials, who attempted to censor the publication.
