Blocks of flats at 'Aldershot South', Aldershot Military Town, Rushmoor, Hampshire

This military housing estate of flats and maisonettes, known as 'Aldershot South', was built by John Laing and Son Ltd for Army families and was part of a larger contract to build 2,250 married quarters for the Armed Services. At the time the photograph was taken, the flats were the highest in England built using the 12M Jespersen system. They were six, seven and eight storeys high with the longest having a 400-ft (122m) frontage.
