Blocks used for Varak Printing

2011

Craft Revival Trust

Craft Revival Trust
New Delhi, India

An array of Varak blocks used for printing small motifs in the main textile field. The blocks bear a close resemblance to the motifs in Zardozi embroidery.

The wooden blocks used for the printing of Varak are carved in high relief and are deeper than blocks used for printing inks. The patterns on the blocks often contain large flat areas, to maximize and emphasize the Varak. The blocks are made by the same blockmakers in Jaipur who make traditional blocks.
