Charles J. Rosen, also known as Cy Rosen, was born in Pennsylvania in 1870.

Painting in the impressionist style, Rosen was known for his landscape scenes of Pennsylvania and the coast of Maine. His work has been described as having “forceful designs and bold, deeply layered brushwork.”

A longtime resident of the Woodstock Artists Colony, Rosen was a founder of the Woodstock School of Painting, along with fellow artists Henry Lee McFee and Andrew Dasburg.

During the Great Depression, Rosen was commissioned by the U.S. Government to paint a series of murals in post offices around the country.

Rosen died in 1950.
