33-year-old Kenyan sculptor Dickens Otieno recycles used soda cans to create his works of art. Based at the GoDown Arts Centre, Dickens engages traders to save the cans which he then treats, cuts and intricately weaves into art pieces. Through his work, Dickens is carrying on the rich cultural tradition of weaving, using individual pieces of a material to create a meaningful whole. Dickens demonstrates the potential and value of what some consider valueless, while keeping the environment green.
