Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus)

The Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus) has the size of a starling with a short but strong beak. Its noticeable brownish gray plumage shows colorful details. The bird is breeding in the north of Eurasia and in Northwest America. In Europe, it mainly inhabits the North of Scandinavia. It prefers wet areas such as riverbanks, peat bogs as well as spruce or birch forests near water. Its main food sources are insects, in autumn and winter mostly fruit.
