Located in Jinjeop-eup, Namyangju-si, Bongseonsa Temple was founded by the Buddhist monk Tanmun in 969 (the 20th year of the reign of King Gwangjong of the Goryeo Dynasty) at the foot of Unaksan Mountain. The temple was originally named Unaksa Temple but was renamed as Bongseonsa Temple in 1469 during the reign of King Yejong of the Joseon Dynasty.
