His engraving of a human skeleton is considered the best reproduction prior to the treatise of Vesalius, in 1543. However, it is a work linked to the medieval imaginary and bestiary, referring to mythological and fantastic beings such as the tree of paradise, harpies, centaurs, unicorns, newts and mermaids.
