Kálmán Mikszáth’s volume of short stories entitled Pernye (Ash) was published in 1903 by the Révai Testvérek Irodalmi Intézet (Révai Brothers Institute of Literature) Company. This book made at the Nándor Gottermayer Bookbinding Institute has a grayish-green cloth binding designed by Ilona Máté, who was all of sixteen years old at that time. The dynamic Art Nouveau curves create a double frame on the front cover, and the author’s name and the title can be seen in black lettering with white outlines in these fields. The intertwined letters RT at the middle of the bottom indicate the publisher, and the letter M in the lower right-hand corner indicates the cover designer.
