In Moche visual art, high-ranking figures can be identified by dress and ornaments – in this case, a necklace decorated with trophy-heads on one figure and a headdress shaped like a wild cat, symbol of political and religious power, on both. Potters of the Jequetepeque Valley sculpted mostly by hand, without using molds.
