In this scene, two courtiers are seated on either side of a slender tree while an attendant approaches from the left. Like the object to the left, this bowl works as a frame, containing a scene that would be just as at home on the page of a book. Mina'i enamel ware, of which this is an example, is closely related to luster ware, ceramics with metallic glazes. The blank sections of the bowl are conservators' reconstructions that show where pieces were missing. The interior inscription, in Kufic script, is unintelligible. The intelligible part of the exterior inscription reads, in Naskh script: Eternal strength and abundant prosperity and triumphant victory and strength. . . .
