Chihiro, who became a mother at the age of 31, repeatedly sketched her infant son’s everyday gestures and growth. Although this picture was made after her son had grown into a young man, it shows him as a small child in one of his favorite poses. Chihiro could readily recall the image of her son actively moving about when he was young and create illustrations from memory.
