Brachiopods are bi-valved marine animals that feed on small food particles using their lophophores. They attach themselves to hard substrates using their pedicles. Brachiopods appeared during the Early Cambrian period and greatly diversified during the whole span of the Paleozoic Era. About 95% of this species became extinct at the end of the Permian period.
