In celebration of the nation’s bicentennial in 1976, Braniff Airlines contracted artist Alexander Calder to design a special patriotic livery for one of their Boeing 727 aircraft. Calder developed the design using large-scale 727 models, the last of which is on display in the Braniff Airlines Gallery in the Museum. This model is extremely rare as it is an original Calder model.
