From its maiden flight in 1969 until retirement in 2003, the Concorde was the world’s fastest commercial airplane, with speeds of 1,350 miles per hour (2,170 kmh). On February 7, 1996, British Airways G-BOAD (also known as Concorde Alpha Delta) made the world’s fastest transatlantic crossing, completing the flight in only two hours, 52 minutes and 59 seconds. This airplane is now displayed at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
This British Airways pilot’s hat is signed by Concorde flight crew: Warren Hazelby (senior engineer officer), Captain Mike Bannister (chief Concorde pilot) and Captain Paul Douglas. This crew piloted the final flight of the Museum’s Concorde to JFK Airport on November 10, 2003.
