Bronze Standing Statue of Shaka Buddha's Birth

This statue reveres the “Flower Festival” which celebrates Shaka’s birthday. This bronze statue is 13.9 cm tall and portrays the birth of Shaka Buddha. It is said that it was excavated in Edo Period at Sengen-bara Field which was across the Mitoku River from Sanbutsu-ji Temple. The right hand pointing to the heavens is missing. The surface is damaged due to being buried or burnt.
Judging from its overall appearance and carving technique, it is presumed that it was made in Heian Period. It is a valuable Heian Period artifact as there are very few statues of buddha’s birth.
