BRONZE STATUE

Unknowncirca 15th century

Museum Nasional Indonesia

Museum Nasional Indonesia
Jakarta, Indonesia

This bronze statue depicts a boy, wearing arm bracelets, a necklace, head adornments, earrings and a belt. Most probably, he is not a god, but an ordinary person. Excavations in Trowulan, the old Majapahit Kingdom (East Java) have produced many similar statues, but made of terracotta. It can be assumed that this statue represents a boy from that kingdom. His jewelry indicates that he belonged to a higher level of society, while the terracotta finds tend to depict common people, without adornments or jewelry.
