 大徳寺の開基宗峰妙超(1282~1337)は、茶の湯では大灯国師とも、また「開山」と呼ばれてその墨蹟が珍重された。
 花園・後醍醐両帝の帰依が厚く、竜宝山大徳寺を建立して開基となり、「大灯国師」の諡号を賜わった。
 このの偈頌は『碧巌録』第三七則「盤山三界無法」の頌にある語句。悠々として無碍自在の大人格たるをいう。玉室宗珀の添状がある。重要文化財。
