The Budongo mahogany tree presents a straight or wavy bole to 25 m clear to a deep crown with dense foliage. Blunt buttresses may be present up to 2.5 m and surface roots are well developed. It is an important timber tree growing at forest edges, thickets and gallery forest usually below 1,220 m. In Uganda,the species dominates the Budongo forest reserve and at Tooro Botanical Gardens the species is planted in the arboreta to promote its conservation.
