Buonarroto di Lodovico, provost of the Signoria, wash the hands of pope Leone X

The fresco is one of those that Michelangelo the Younger decided to dedicate to the celebration of his ancestors, in the room of night and day. This work was carried out, free of charge, by Pietro da Cortona, a friend of Michelangelo the Younger, which in 1637 had been staying in Casa Buonarroti. The illustrious episode shows the moment in which pope Leone X granted to the priori in office, in which there was also Buonarroto di Ludovico, to put in their coat of arms the medici’s ball, flory and azure, together with the initials L.P.X (Leo papa X).
