Burney Falls, 129 feet high, in McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, California, circa 1956. The falls are named for Samuel Burney who settled in the area in the 1850s. Burney's descendants, as well as another local pioneer family, the McArthurs, purchased the property containing the falls and gave it to the state as a gift in the 1920s.
