Ali Galip Effendi was born in Bursa in 1860. He came to İzmir in 1884 and learned the art and trade of confectionery from Greek and Armenian masters. Having worked with many French, Italian, Greek and Armenian masters and gained experience, he founded Şekerci Ali Galip company in the heart of Izmir, Kemeraltı, in 1901, which became a century-old company in the field of lokum. Ali Galip Fruit Taffy Lokum Box, with its Ottoman Turkish and French inscriptions, bears the traces of the multiculturalism of the period. It shows an İzmir Kordon visual. It is colorful just like taffy lokum candies. On the sphere in the middle, it says “Şekerci Ali Galip” in Ottoman Turkish. On the right, there is a photograph of Ali Galip Bey, who has reached the present day from long ago, thanks to his profession and passion for lokum.
