After slicing this squash to reveal a cross-section of the interior, Eileen was thrilled with the intricate details, the seeds, and the colors. She decided to do something a bit different. Rather than simply painting a still life of the exterior, she focused on the interior, with a shadow-like background. “I loved this painting,” Eileen said. “I loved painting it. It was a challenge. But when I showed it to some friends or ‘critics’, their reaction appeared to be: ‘What was she thinking?’ On the other hand, if someone liked it, they loved it too.”
