Virgin and Child

This painting represents the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus in her lap. Their S-shaped bodies are elongated and spatially integrated into a pyramid-shaped structure. The Virgin protectively cradles the naked Child, who is sitting up and looking directly to the front, holding in his hands some red ribbons with a rectangular pendant, on which this same scene is represented. Both of their heads are enveloped in a divine light that causes the figures to stand out from the dark monochrome background. This is possibly a copy from the Italian School, in which prominence is given to the divine beauty of the two characters, as well as to the mannerism of their physiognomic features.
