The heavy black area dominating the center of the poster is a striking design element and is broken only by the long leg of the cabaret singer. The visual respite does not undo the oppressiveness of the black, which refers to the growth of the Nazi Party, a consistent theme in the film, which is set in the Weimer Republic of 1931.
