Perhaps the most important representative of French Art Deco was Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann. Ruhlmann's parents already owned a decoration company, which their son continued and expanded. His breakthrough came in 1913 when he exhibited at the Salon d`automne in Paris. In 1919 he founded a decoration company together with the painter Pierre Laurent, with which he gained international recognition. He was known worldwide for using only the finest materials.
