Made in Italy or Spain, this cabinet consists of two bodies, with a box covered by a drop front placed on an open stand. The box is reinforced and decorated on the outside by various metallic elements and shaped and pierced tracery plaques placed on red velvet. Inside, the front elevation of the fitted interior, displaying great decorative wealth and erudition, is reminiscent of a Renaissance Italian façade, composed of niches, broken pediments, arcades, columns and reserves, in a complex and articulated whole that conceals niches and drawers of various sizes. The decorative covering uses relief elements, and inlays of wood, ivory and tortoise shell. Around the central figure of Christ on the cross, in gilt bronze, are a series of engraved ivory plaques and panels representing biblical themes, probably inspired by engravings.
