"A lighthouse was erected on the roof of SITE Santa Fe's building. It used materials like household and industrial trash, as well as discards from nature, such as fallen tree branches. The shape and structure of the tower incorporated architectural elements from the local Native American culture. The objects placed on the exterior of this lighthouse are those used by the people who habitually reside inside these types of func- tional structures. Its light blinked off and on, as if calling to a faraway time when the desert plateau was once part of the ocean. This displaced lighthouse on top of the museum seemed a bit funny, yet, at the same time, when one saw its light going on and off, one sensed the isolation of today's civilization, particularly in relation to contemporary art." - Cai Guo-Qiang
