"Camp at Thiaroye" by director Ousmane Sembène from Senegal, was one of the first four films presented at the festival inaugural event in 1991.

The film documents the events leading up to the Thiaroye massacre. It received positive reviews at the time it was released and continues to be heralded by scholars as an important historical documentation of the Thiaroye massacre.
