Although "writing" (as graffiti was originally known) started on walls, vans, and trucks in the late 1960s in New York City, by 1973–1974, it had migrated to subway cars and had evolved increasingly elaborate styles of font. By the 1990s, tagging on freight cars had become more prevalent around the world, as illustrated by this magazine.
