Before Ernest L. Brothers established his own business in the late 1920s, there is scant evidence to support the conclusion that he had been designing much furniture. As this presentation drawing for a daybed indicates, however, he clearly ventured into this arena. Notice how Brothers’ interior design background influences the overall vision: the canopy fabric, carpet, and wallpaper are each carefully considered and integrated into the scheme.
