Perennial, 40-70cm tall. Riversides, lakesides, swamps or wet places. Few purple-brown and bladeless sheathed at base. Leaves longer than or slightly shorter than culm. Lateral spikes female, oblong-ovate or shortly cylindric, densely many flowered, very shortly pedunculate or subsessile. Nutlets dark brown, loosely enveloped, elliptic, trigonous, 1mm.
