Carter G Woodson Memorial Park Project
Dr. Carter G. Woodson
Project Overview
Historian Carter G. Woodson, known as the father of Black History, lived and worked at 1538 9th Street, NW.
The Memorial Park is an existing triangular park. The project consists of adding a bronze sculpture of Dr. Woodson seated on a circular stone memorial, surrounded by paved plaza space and set within a neatly landscaped park. The sculpture will be the centerpiece of the renovated park. Included in this project will be new plantings, restored iron fencing, new pavers, and potentially benches.
The Woodson sculpture, executed by sculptor Ray Kaskey, has already been cast, and awaits completion of the park's construction before installation.
