On November 12, 2019, the UNESCO General Conference proclaimed May 5 of each year as World Day for the Portuguese Language. The year 2020 marks the first time that UNESCO celebrates this World Day, in partnership with the embassies of Portuguese-speaking countries that are members of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) and with the Government of the Federal District (GDF). On this occasion, they also celebrate the 60th anniversary of Brasilia together, one of the World Heritage sites in Brazil recognized by UNESCO.
