Milton Keynes developed as a result of a Government decision in the 1960s to create a new geneation of new towns to relieve congestion in London. A Development Corporation was created to design and deliver self-sufficient 'New City'. A feature of Milton Keynes is its hierarchical system of grid-pattern streets.
