Certificate mounted on board featuring a central photographic portrait of Private Manfred Cross from Killarney, Queensland, who enlisted with 9th Infantry Battalion and served with 49th Infantry Battalion in France. He was wounded in action on the 7 June 1917 at the Battle of Messines, and re-joined his unit in December 1917. In March 1918 he was transferred to the 4th Australia Division Signals Company as a sapper, and returned to Australia in April 1919 . His photograph is surrounded by coloured illustrations of Lord Kitchener, General Joffre, Admiral Jellicoe, General French, and the ship HMAS Australia.
