"The Maricel Museum was the ancient Sant Joan Baptista Hospital for nearly six hundred years. The old vestige that now remains of that building is this hall with gothic arches.
Over the years the hospital did not have the conditions to ensure optical care to patients. In 1909 the American Charles Deering bought the building and transformed it into his house within Maricel set.
The last mass officiated at the church of the old hospital took place on June 9th, 1910, few years after Antoni Almirall painted this picture."
