In 1977, Antonio Berni traveled to New York and settled in apartment 1009 of the mythical Chelsea Hotel, rented by the art dealer Alfredo Bonino to prepare his next series of works. Berni mentioned in an interview at the time his interest in "the great city" and in "the aspects of New York that correspond to Buenos Aires and, to some extent, to every great modern city." New York impressed him greatly for its drive, its growth and vitality, but also for the marginality present in its streets. The work shows us a young, voluptuous woman, with her naked torso shamelessly displayed. Sitting on the end of a bed, legs crossed, with black stockings and garters, she opens a magenta draped curtain with white stripes, and looks out of the corner of her eye, as if inviting someone to enter her room.
