Cheongju Craft Biennale 2019

The theme of the 2019 11th Cheongju Craft Biennale is "Craft in Future and Dream-Spread out Mongyudowon", which aims to explore the future direction and value of craftsmanship through crafts that capture a dream-like sense of uideal beauty and whimsy against the contrasting backdrop of today's often harsh, inhumane, and bleak world. This year's event takes a closer look at what type of future contemporary artists and their crafts envision, while, at the same time, symbolizing the harmonization of humanity and nature through crafts to create a sensational utopia in the form of a garden of dreams. By intergrating the eastern concept of naturalism and the western concept of utopianism, the 2019 Cheongju Craft Biennale aims to offer audiences perspectives on this "garden of dreams" concept that are not only realistic, but also of fantastical proportions that transcend common ways of thinking.
