A view of the Cheorwon plain with rice straw preserved. Chopped rice straw is sprinkled on the rice fields after harvest. Instead of selling rice straw, farmers trying to conserve cranes leave it in paddy fields for cranes and insects. The Ministry of Environment is financially supporting these crane conservation efforts through the Biodiversity Management Contract Scheme.
